I'll save the analogy I'd like to use for this book for non-written mediums. There's so much to love in this story. It's juicy, beautiful, and written from the heart. It also was a great crash course in modern Dominican history. It did disappoint me in that there were a few characters whom I wanted to hear so much more from. Like the main character!! Also, we've got another case of an idealized man doing nothing but disappointing women. That never bothered me until I started paying attention to the stories we hear in film and literature. It's rare when a story shows us a woman treated well by a man. Even when women are protagonists. Even when the opposite would be irrelevant to the story. I digress.
This is great. Read it. But I wish Diaz had given this some more time to go deeper.
