Blooms in the Muck

Only the good stuff

Bringing you audible lotuses from the muck, reviews, and words on self betterment.

This all started barefoot in the woods of North Carolina.

She had a dour Presbyterian mind and a code of morals that pinned down and beat the brains out of nearly everything that was pleasant to do.

Steinbeck, East of Eden

I spent my summer afternoons in the 1990s sifting through spiderwebs and clay in search of the divine black-and-yellow patterns of the Eastern box turtle.

I've since washed my feet.  No more herping, but my reverence for identifying and sharing proverbial lotuses in the muck lives on.

Thus, BLOOMS is about showcasing the good stuff: music, film, books, reasoned thoughts on life.

I am: a lady girl ("LG"), raised not to spend too much time figuring out what "kind of" woman I am for fear I'd collapse into the internet's precious center.  When I was little the word "hustle" scared me because it meant I was about to throw up at a basketball game, now it's a mental state I have to actively divorce myself from. Corporate attorney in Orange County with a soft spot for soft spots.

Impatient with half hearted performances and compassionate for any production with ambition. When in doubt I throw parties.

My ire is reserved for crabs in buckets; don't trust anyone who panics when you smile.

《愛蓮說》 周敦頤

水陸草木之花,可愛者甚蕃。

晉陶淵明獨愛菊;

自李唐來,世人盛愛牡丹;

予獨愛蓮之出淤泥而不染,

濯清漣而不妖,

中通外直,不蔓不枝,

香遠益清,亭亭靜植,

可遠觀而不可褻玩焉。

予謂:

菊,花之隱逸者也;

牡丹,花之富貴者也;

蓮,花之君子者也。

噫!菊之愛,陶後鮮有聞;

蓮之愛,同予者何人;

牡丹之愛,宜乎眾矣。
