Finals Hiatus & Question for You
It might seem obvious, but I am on a writing break right now! I am in the thick of patent, copyright, and digital media transactions finals, and going through a bit of a transition in my professional life.
Get excited for 2015. While this has been a humble year for BITM, I'm frankly happy that it's gone from being an egg of an idea in my head to a functioning domain, even if my readership hovers around a sensible 20 IPs. Clearly, and, ironically, while I focus on "blooms versus buds" here, this site is still just a bud, itself. A lil pupa, if you will, that is not quite sure where it's headed.
As someone who is in a "professional" career, I wrestle with how much of myself I ought to share on a public website. Reasonable minds tend to agree: none. The legal community is small, and even so much as sharing distaste for certain musical artists or lifestyles makes me uncomfortable, especially given that much of my practice this past year has been in entertainment. I don't like to ruffle feathers.
But at the same time, I am sure I will find a way to keep sharing content with you in a way that (1) I have time for; (2) that doesn't get anyone in trouble; (3) (most importantly) you enjoy.
For starters, I'm headed to Sundance 2015 and will be covering all the premieres and forums I can get to --- my guess is probably 7.
Next, this past year has been huge for me in terms of business development activity that I haven't really ever addressed. Just two years ago, I knew nothing about this topic. Now, it's my life. I want to empower readers who are interested in the arts (or otherwise) to see and leverage themselves as a brand, and think that my regular contact with innovators in LA has given me a vantage point that a lot of people don't have access to. Whether I will be able to articulate what I have learned is a good question.
If there's one thing you take away from this post, let it be the following:
Thank you for reading. I can't predict where I'm going to take BLOOMS but I'm glad to keep it alive.
Love,
V.P.
