Steinbeck's "East of Eden"

There's a first time for everything: bursting into tears at the end of a novel, and encountering fully developed Asian American characters written by white dudes.

Sam Hamilton is the person we all aspire to be, we are all lucky to know a Lee, and Cathy might just represent the nastiness that comes about when we fear we won't get what we want.

Steinbeck is a great storyteller, but a few weeks after reading this, I don't remember the narrative at all.

At the end of the day, this is more a dedication to those people who recognize and refuse to accept evil in themselves and others.
