Dear White People
Though there is certainly a rewarding crescendo in this iconic, gorgeous film, the protagonists' typical reactionary restraint probably provides a better reflection of the real world than what we should hope for.
It's difficult to develop so many characters while committing to a satire, especially when many of said characters' issues spring from a culture that denies them an identity.
That said, the film succeeds because it does just that: we leave wondering where Sam, Coco, and Lionel will be ten years from now, while recognizing, regardless of where they end up, race is and will be an immutable part of how the world, including white people, view them.
For us white people, that simply isn't the case.
