Container - Complex & Feadz - Instant Beta
DJs, I bring to you your Saturday night jamz.
First we have Frechman Fabien Pianta. Pianta's been around since the 90s, but this is his debut d/b/a Feadz.
This highly anticipated release hasn't been met with uproarious applause. Writes Nate Patrin of Pitchfork, "It's all signifiers and nothing signified, exploring the possibilities of cross-genre dance music the same way mashing an action figure and a Barbie doll together explores sex."
Eh, a bit too harsh for me. Major Lazer certainly resembles an auditory version of fused Barbie and Hulk, and dancers don't seem to complain. True: if you're here to give us bangers, each track has to be tight. Electric Empire, The Purpose, and Papercut aren't going to bring the house down, and, yeah, it's hard to see them in any other context. We do have a few interesting tracks here: Instant Delta, Wettex, and Eastside, to name a few.
Next, cue up all of Providence based Container's 2014 EP (I promise I am not stuck in 2013), Adhesive. Its success is rooted in its complex but unrelenting rhythms and allowance for just enough fuzz to make it dirty. Not all edm is about the build-up. Some artists know that suspense can instead be built within each measure. God bless them, every one.
